This is a dream to get funds to buy the material for the Collection Point Workstation that includes storage of clean, sorted and shredded plastic:
This projects is an enabler for the following stages of Precious Plastic development. Having a collection point established is key for getting in touch with the surrounding business, community associations and municipality.
Being able to transform our modern life residues back into valuable, precious material is not only key for a sustainable living but for a resilient way of living. Turning waste into resource without state or private company intervention is key not only for community resilience but sovereignty.
Collecting, cleaning and sorting plastics is a fundamental step to all following creative processes and products made from recycled plastic. It involves participation in a diverse range of levels: From getting in touch with companies and civil organisations to cleaning and sorting plastic by type and colour.
Having a collection point setup and equipped to receive plastic is the first step towards a plastic recycling ecosystem where the leakage of precious materials (that are also often harmful for the environment when disposed) is piped back into material acquisition.

|3x 180L Extra Large Bags||900 SEK|
|3x 60L Storage Box||270 SEK|
|10L BiOHY soap (vegan eco friendly soap)||1 100 SEK|
Total funding goal: 2 270 SEK
This is great! My main feedback would be to increase the budget a bit and also include materials for making it beautiful somehow - maybe by building a box around it and painting it or making a light installation that illuminates the plastic in different colors. It should be visually rewarding to recycle!
I like this idea but I’m afraid of building more on top of this idea without knowing for example where this is going to be: In the house or Frihamstorget. Maybe it’s going to be a standing box, maybe hanging on the wall, maybe I’ll have to store this on a storage compartment somewhere…
One thing I really want: Colorful, beautiful posters with information about what and how to recycle! But I’m not sure how to price it. I was thinking on colaborating with @Sero on it, how would you price helping out with this?
Also repinging @hampus to help thinking space and storage as this might be the main bottleneck for this dream (more even than funding). Should I account for rental of space/container in this dream?
As soon as the project requires a dedicated container you should budget for 1500 kr/month+VAT in container rent + an additional cost for renting the container itself. Maybe an additional 1000 kr or so. Renting an identical container from Containertjänst costs 42 kr/day + VAT or 1260 kr + VAT per month.
That said, I think this is the sort of project that we can accept running “at a loss” for quite some time, as long as there are other projects that cover the costs of Frihamnstorget rent. Precious plastic is, in my mind, the sort of project that the square exists to support. So don’t be too dissuaded by pressure for income to the project - these things are negotiable when the purpose aligns. However, that would need to be transparent and run through an advice process with the rest of the square.
Yes, obviously everything in the pricing discussion is relative to what sort of income the square can generate. My personal recommendation though is to be conservative in your budget calculation and financial model for the project. If the circumstances align to enable a lower than expected rental cost I’m sure it would be quite easy to absorb that extra money into the project…
Another aspect of this to consider in my mind is the repeatability/applicability of the project. It’s a much stronger narrative for the project’s potential success if it takes place under non-outlandish “market” conditions rather than in a protected and privileged bubble where there is very little in terms of economical pressure. Just as Blivande itself would be much less interesting as a phenomenon if we had started with 50 MSEK (or even 5 M) in seed money and 20% of our current rent.
Thanks for this words of wisdom, @hampus! As you might have noticed, I do prefer conservative solutions (for audacious goals ) and in the very early moments of this idea I was considering rental of the container you offered. There has been a bit of back and forth on where Precious Plastic workstations could be hosted since the larger CNC discussion and I’m not sure where the decision landed (if it landed).
I’m happy to include rental on the proposal, but of course I would prefer not since it puts an initial financial pressure that can strangle or slow down the germination process. That being said perhaps @hugi could join the conversation we are planning to have next week?
It would be awesome also to have advice from a Frihamstorget co-creators
No, the project doesn’t strike me as the ultimate get rich quick scheme… please correct me if I’m wrong.
The first project initiation period would certainly benefit from not having to pay rent, that’s a no brainer in this case. Blivande didn’t pay rent for the first 3 months after gaining access to the main building so as to give us time to focus on renovations and rebuilding. Something similar should happen also in this case and the period can always be adapted as the project evolves.
Very cool project! I would like to know more about it and if we can learn more from you and work together with the young people part of the new project Climate Changemakerspaces, with the goal to start their own initiatives and projects mitigating and adapting to climate change, in cooperation with Greenpeace at Fryshuset in Stockholm.
